Requirements

Requirements for Erasmus:

Each Department at Munster Technological has it's own requirements for sending their students on Erasmus/abroad. Please note the following requirements from each department in regards to Erasmus (Departments Listed in alphabetical order):

(School of) Business

  • Students wishing to go on Eramsus must have achieved at least 55% - 60% average results from the previous semester.
  • Erasmus is mandatory for students from the International Business with a Language course - no GPA requirements. 
  • Business Information System (BIS) students can only go on Erasmus in Year 3 Semester 2 (students should apply in Year 3 Semester 1).

Civil & Structural Engineering

  • Level 7 students may only go on Erasmus during their 2nd Year for a maximum of 1 Semester (Semester 1 or Semester 2, not a Full Year).
  • Level 8 students may only go on Erasmus during their 2nd Year (Semester 1 or Semester 2) or Year 3 (Semester 1 or Semester 2) (Full Year not available)
  • Students wishing to go on Eramsus must have achieved at least 2.2 Second Class Honours Grade 2 results.
  • Modules to be undertaking in the host institute must be preapproved by the Erasmus Coordinator or Head of Department; these should be techncial modules alligned with the MTU programme of study.

Computer Science

  • Level 7 students may only go on Erasmus during their 2nd Year for a maximum of 1 Semester (Semester 1 or Semester 2, not a Full Year).
  • Level 8 students may only go on Erasmus during their 2nd or 3rd Year of study (Full Year available)
  • Students wishing to go on Eramsus must have achieved at least 55% - 60% average results from the previous semester.
  • Students cannot earn credits for non-technical modules, particularly those primarily based on foreign languages while on Erasmus.

Crawford - Contemporary Applied Art

  • Students can only go on Erasmus in Year 3 Semester 2 (students should apply in Year 3 Semester 1).
  • Students wishing to go on Eramsus must have achieved at least 60% average results from the previous semester.
  • Portfolio required: Students must prepare a digital portfolio of recent work, consisting of a maximum of 10
  • A short Expression of Interest statement

Crawford - Fine Art

  • Students can only go on Erasmus in Year 3 Semester 2 (students should apply in Year 3 Semester 1 before the end of September)
  • Students wishing to go on Eramsus must have passed all Year 2 Modules.
  • Students must achieve a minimum of 60% in their Semester 2, Year 2 assessment. Year 3, Semester 1 essay and presentation proposals must be submitted on time.
  • International Portfolio required: Students must prepare a digital portfolio of recent work, consisting of a maximum of 20. An internal portfolio review must be successfully completed before progressing.
  • A short Expression of Interest statement

Mechanical, Biomedical & Manufacturing Engineering: Traineeship only

The Erasmus option is not used for academic learning as it is difficult to match the learning in MTU with English language engineering modules that are on offer in our partner institutes. Unfortunately, this excludes LEVEL 7 students from using Erasmus learning.

Students wishing to go on Erasmus Traineeship must have achieved at least 50% average results from the previous semester. The Erasmus traineeship can be used as follows:

  • B. Eng in Mechanical Eng (Level 8) and B. Eng in Biomedical Eng (Level 8): 25 credit PLAC8020 Extended Work Placement module in Semester 2 year 3 of EMECH_8_y3 and EBIOM_8_y3 starting in January  (for a minimum of 15 weeks)
  • M. Eng in Mechanical Eng (Level 9) and B. Eng in Biomedical Eng (Level 9): Research Project Actualization (30 credits) module in the final semester of year 5. Starting in January – May (as agreed with the Erasmus partner)

Process Energy and Transport Engineering: TRAINEESHIP ONLY.

The Erasmus option is not used for academic learning as it is difficult to match the learning in MTU with English language engineering modules that are on offer in our partner institutes.
Erasmus Traineeship can be used as follows: 

  • B.Eng in SUSTAINABLE ENERGY ENGINEERING: 15 credits MECH7019 Work Placement module. Semester 2 year 3 (ESENT_8_y3) from mid March (for a minimum of 12 weeks)
  • B. Eng in CHEMICAL and BIOPHARMACEUTICAL ENGINEERING: CHEP8028 Engineering Research Project (15 credits) and PLAC8009 Professional Work Placement (15 credits). Summer of Year 3 + Semester 1 of year 4 (ECPEN_8_y4).
