English Language Requirements

All applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of English language proficiency. English language tests must be undertaken no more than two years prior to the start of a programme. 

Please note if you do not require a English Language Proficency Exam for entry to CIT you may be required to provide one for Visa purposes so please ensure you check Visa requirements for your country.


Level 1 - Undergraduate and most Postgraduate

Level 2 - Postgraduate Media & Business programmes


IELTS (Academic)

Entry 2020 only - The Visa Division of the Department of Justice and Equality has confirmed that it will accept 3 Year IELTS Tests on an exceptional basis for 2020 only. If you have completed a test from September 2017 to September 2018 it will be considered.

L1: At least 6.0 with no section below 5.5

L2: At least 6.5 with no section below 6.0.



L1: At least 80 - with minimum scores: Listening- 17; Reading - 18; Speaking – 20; Writing - 17

L2: at least 90  - with minimum scores: Listening - 23; Reading - 21; Speaking - 22; Writing - 23


Pearson PTE (Academic)

L1: At least 59 with no section below 56

L2: At least 63 with no section below 59


Cambridge English Qualifications:

B2 First (FCE) or C1 Advanced (CAE)

L1: At least 169 with no section below 162

L2: at least 176 with no section below 169


C2 Proficiency (CPE)

L1: At least 180 with no section below 162

L2: At least 180 with no section below 169.
