A New Semester, New Resolutions, and Popcorn Chicken

Hello and welcome back to all previous students to Semester 2, and if you have just joined us here in MTU this semester then Welcome to Munster Technological University and we hope you have an eventful semester. I want to start off by saying I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas Break and a Happy New Year.

As it is the New year, I hope many of you have new year resolutions that they plan on achieving across 2026. No matter how hard or easy the resolution might seem do not push it to the side and ignore it as I know all of you can achieve these goals whether it is studying more, getting better grades, making new friends, exploring Ireland more or even hitting the gym. Give you 100% to all these goals to be the best version of yourself. Personally, I have set myself a couple of new year’s resolutions for this year that I plan on attempting and achieving as I want to be able to tell myself that I am a better person than I was the previous year.

Week 1 in Semester 2 has already passed by although not much has been done as it is only the first week, I still am shocked and astonished by the workload and expectations this semester. Modules have gotten a bit more difficult as I expected but that will still not stop from trying to do my best and give my 100% to all my modules. But thankfully week 1 was successful as I finally figured out where all my lectures are, I met with all my friends from my course and got to hear about their winter breaks and obviously I had to make my trip to the cafeteria and get my beloved MTU popcorn chicken, and dare I say it tastes even better than last semester. I don’t know why it feels this way, maybe because I did not have it for over a month due to the Christmas break or the fact that the MTU popcorn chicken will never ever fail you and will always been in my top 5 foods. Please all new students/ERASMUS students I cannot stress this enough please, please go get the popcorn chicken the next time you can.

Another reason this week was a success is because we got our results back, although I was terrified to receive my grades back I have passed all my subjects with decent grades which I am very proud off as I know I put in a lot of effort in to get these grades and it was worth in the end, and this allows me to know I have the ability to keep up with college work and that I belong here and earned my place here in MTU, I hope all other students in MTU have passed semester 1 and are happy with their grades as we are all a family here in MTU and want what’s best for each other.

As RJ Barrett said – “A college experience is something everyone should have …. Just being kids. Hanging out.”  I hope this reminds all us students that no matter how hard or frustrating college can get sometimes at the end of the day it’s also a fun experience that we should utilize to the max and gain a lot from it whether it’s knowledge, friends or even memories. I hope this helps encourage and motivate you to do your best this semester and achieve all your goals and have a happy new year.
